¡Hola!
As program director for Verano en México (VEM), I would
like to thank you for inquiring about our summer language and
travel program at the University of Guadalajara in Guadalajara,
México.
As a current Spanish high school teacher with over ten years of
experience and a past participant of travel abroad programs (México,
France and Spain), I know that the opportunity to study and travel
in a foreign country is both an educationally and personally rewarding
experience. Such an enriching and worldly experience is a door
opener to many possibilities and an academic preparation for future
college studies. With this is mind, I have created VEM summer
study program in Guadalajara, México.
Guadalajara is one of the most beautiful cities in México,
the second biggest and most important as well. As a native, I
can also say that it is the most representative city of traditional
Mexican culture: mariachi music, charrerías and ballet
folklórico. It is a place of many cultural treasures;
one of them being El Instituto Cultural Cabañas which houses
the murals of José Clemente Orozco.
Our program at the prominent University of Guadalajara (UDG) is
an exceptional place for language studies. Students take courses
at this outstanding University, but they will also explore the
culture of this widely spoken language. I believe language learning
is not only about speaking, but also about the people and the
culture. For this reason, the program is set up to include daily
and weekend excursions. Participants will be out walking around,
seeing the sights and making new discoveries.
VEM is a one of a kind program that offers an opportunity for
a unique well-rounded education. We hope your student will be
part of this great learning and precollegiate experience.
